The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern. The outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, a member of the Ebolavirus genus, for which neither an approved vaccine nor a specific treatment is currently available. International health authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Die Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) hat den derzeitigen Ebola-Ausbruch in der Demokratischen Republik (DR) Kongo und Uganda zu einer „gesundheitlichen Notlage internationaler Tragweite“ erklärt. Auslöser ist das seltene Bundibugyo-Virus aus der Gattung Ebolavirus, gegen das bislang weder ein zugelassener Impfstoff noch eine spezifische Therapie verfügbar ist. Internationale Gesundheitsbehörden beobachten die Lage mit großer Aufmerksamkeit.
