Jena. A common advice by GPs to patients diagnosed with prediabetes is to perform light exercise. Often this slows down or even stops the progression to type 2 diabetes. But not every patient reacts positively to exercise. A study led by Gianni Panagiotou, a computational biologist from Jena, focussed on the role of the gut microbiome and its composition in diabetes progression and the influence of regular exercise. The study was conducted with researchers from Hong Kong and was published recently in Cell Metabolism.
