Versatile root exudates help plants surviving on calcareous soils

Elucidation of the biochemical pathway synthesizing coumarin-type iron chelators paves new ways to improve iron efficiency in crops. Researchers from the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) have discovered novel chemical features in iron mobilization by root exudates.
